Types of Tile
Tile flooring is without a doubt one of the most popular flooring options in kitchens, bathrooms, and others areas with moisture. Why? Tile combines design versatility with reliable strength and water resistance. By far, the two most popular tile options are ceramic and porcelain.
When you see tile flooring in a home, it’s almost always going to be ceramic tile. Ceramic is the most popular tile option in homes and other indoor settings largely because of its design versatility. There are simply so many different colors, patterns, shapes, and sizes from which to choose. At the same time, ceramic performs exceptionally well. It is moisture and heat resistant, and it can also be sealed to protect against stains.
Ceramic tiles can be glazed to add extra shine and color to the surface. Glaze also protects against spills and stains.
Ceramic is great for indoor settings, but for outdoor settings, porcelain tile is the better option. Like ceramic, porcelain is moisture and heat resistant, but porcelain tiles tend to be much stronger and much more stable. They will rarely crack under changing weather conditions, and they also are dense enough to handle excessive moisture. As a result, porcelain tiles are preferred for patios and other outdoor areas.
Furthermore, although porcelain does not offer the same design versatility as ceramic, it can be glazed. But, porcelain is usually left unglazed for extra slip resistance.
